Rebranding your podcast with Dr. Yami Cazorla-Lancaster

There are over 150 million podcast episodes and 44% have less than three episodes.

This can largely be attributed to podfade, a term used to describe when a show stops releasing new episodes and disappears due to the host or hosts experiencing a loss of interest or motivation.

But what if you’re a podcast host with hundreds of episodes published, and you no longer feel the call to keep putting out the same type of show week after week?

If this resonates with you, keep reading and grab your headphones.

In this episode of Mics to Millions, Dr. Yami Cazorla-Lancaster, host of the top 0.5% ranked podcast I AM HUMAN, shares how she successfully rebranded her podcast to diversify the topics and reignite her passion. Here’s a summary of the interview.

A rebrand can open up new topics and broaden your authority as an expert

In January 2024, Dr. Yami took the bold step of rebranding her podcast from Veggie Doctor Radio to I AM HUMAN.

This rebranding represented a shift in content and direction. Initially, she started the podcast to talk about plant-based nutrition. But recently she admits that she’s felt a strong desire to broaden the topics discussed on the podcast.

“I decided to open up my brand to include other topics, including spirituality and personal development, because they’re important to me. I started to feel a bit confined and restricted as  ‘The Veggie Doctor.’ I want to talk about other things, so that’s why I rebranded.”

The hardest part of rebranding is taking the first step

Changing the name and theme of a podcast after years of publishing might sound like a logistical nightmare. However, according to Dr. Yami, the hardest part is deciding to go ahead in the first place.

She shares that she was held back with concerns like “What’s going to happen if I do this? Am I going to lose listeners? Are people going to be receptive to it?” She adds, “Once we made the decision to do it and we selected beautiful new cover art, I was like ‘All right, we’re doing this and I’m going to go full force with it.’

Dr. Yami states that “the rebrand has been well received” and says “I haven’t lost any followers or downloads.”

Repurposing old episodes can help you create new content for your social media

If you’re an experienced podcaster with many past episodes in the bank, you might be sitting on an untapped goldmine for social media content.

Dr. Yami is no stranger to the power of using past content for social media growth. And with 350+ episodes published, she has plenty of material to keep her followers entertained.

“It’s so easy to go back and take out little clips and continue to promote older episodes that we feel are evergreen and spread those on reels and YouTube shorts.”
