Think sponsorship and ads are the only ways to monetize your podcast? Today’s guest, Omar Cumberbatch, invites you to rethink that strategy.
Omar is the host of the Health Coach Academy and the co-host of This Podcast Burns Fat. On top of his role as a podcaster, he’s a professional health coach and has training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. He’s on a mission to enable his clients to unlock a balanced life physically, spiritually, and nutritionally.
In this episode of Mics to Millions, host Sam Brake Guia chats with Omar about the hidden perks of podcasting and how affiliate marketing can help podcasters make money.
Hiring a podcast expert early on can make a significant difference
In the information age, podcasters can learn the ropes by watching YouTube videos, listening to podcasts, or reading blogs. However, the information is often scattered, and it’s valuable to have someone who has already navigated the journey and can guide you through it.
Omar says, “If I had the chance to start my podcasting journey, I would choose to invest upfront in a mentor to guide me through certain aspects, rather than just languishing without direction. This is particularly important for individuals who have a passion for podcasting but may easily get discouraged.”
There are numerous undefined benefits of having a podcast
Harnessing the power of podcasting comes with a hidden advantage – the opportunity to establish yourself as an authority in your field.
Do you remember high school where hanging out with the cool kids instantly elevates your status? Well, you can create a similar impact by interviewing other authorities on your show.
The positive image and success of your guests can catch the attention of your audience, turn them into loyal listeners – and ultimately – drive sales.

Affiliate marketing can help you make more money from your podcast
When it comes to monetizing your podcast, sponsorship and ads might be the first options that come to mind. But Omar highlights, “The math behind that is not even close to what you can make in affiliate marketing. And that’s one of the things that a lot of people may not be aware of.”
To illustrate this, imagine having 2000 listeners per episode. In that case, you could earn $36-50, with the average CPM for podcast advertising being between $18 and $25. On the other hand, affiliate marketing allows you to surpass this amount. For instance, promoting a high-ticket program worth $1000 and receiving a 15% commission means that a single sale could bring in more revenue than ads or sponsorships combined.
