Exploding your social media using podcasting

We know social media can be a great tool for growing your podcast. But this can be a two-way relationship. With the right strategy, your podcast content can do wonders for your social media growth.

Our guest this week, Dr. Latt Mansor, host of Health Via Modern Nutrition, is a prime example of this. He’s been able to grow his social media from 2k to 184k+ followers on Instagram since embarking on his podcast journey.

In this episode of Mics to Millions, you’ll learn how podcast guesting helped him improve his approach to podcasting, how to find a podcast editor that is right for you, and how to seek out resources to help you become a better podcaster.

Your podcasts must be converted to short-form social media content for maximum success

For those looking to grow their social media using their podcast, Dr. Mansor stresses the importance of recognizing the difference between the long-form content of podcasting and the short-form nature of social media.

“Long-form content isn’t as snappy, and not as straight to the point. It’s not like the hooks are as strong as when you sit down and say ‘I’m going to make a minute video, and this is my hook.’” For this reason, posting random clips of your podcast won’t cut it. Instead, post clips that quickly hook the audience and deliver snappy information.

Guesting can help you improve your approach to podcasting

Dr. Mansor is no stranger to podcast guesting. In fact, before becoming the host of Health Via Modern Nutrition, he’d already guested on 60+ podcasts.

He says this experience was invaluable when it came to how he approached hosting and running his podcast.

“I’d been on about 60 podcasts before becoming a host. During that time, I learned the different processes of these hosts. Some hosts would send me pre-recording questionnaires. Some would just go with the flow. Some would schedule using Calendly. Some will schedule manually. All those different nuances that different hosts used, that was when I learned all these things about podcasting.”

But he didn’t set out to be a podcast guest just to learn how to become better at podcasting. Instead, he admits that Ketone-IQ, the product his company sells, sees a spike in sales whenever he guests on a show. For this reason, they try to maximize his exposure as a podcast guest.

“That is exactly why my podcast booking team just books my calendar full of freaking guest podcasts, even though I’m like ‘Can we have two per day maximum, because my brain needs a break.’ And then they say “Oh, here you go. There are three today,‘“ he laughs.

Starting with the end in mind can help you find the perfect editor

When asked who works on the podcast, Dr. Mansor explains that it is just him and his editor. While that might sound like a small team for such a professionally produced podcast, he shares that he is very selective about who he picks for his editor.

And Dr. Mansor has some pearls of advice for those looking to hire an editor. “Do some research so that you have an idea of what you want your show to be like. And then with that image, when you search for editors, give them projects. They usually do that for free anyway. The editor who comes up with the closest outcome to your image is the one because there is less to work remaining and you’re almost there already.”

He also stresses that it’s important to zoom out and take a more holistic perspective when assessing editors’ skill sets because while some editors might be good at their job, other aspects can let them down.

“Sometimes you have to realize that some editors may be very good, but then their turnaround time is twice the time you need them to be turning around. So that’s also another issue because if people expect a podcast episode every week and your editor can’t get them out on time, you’ll lose your audience and the trust and faith they’ve put in you.”
