Want to know what sending three to four podcast pitches a day for six months can do for your podcast and business?
Well, you’re in luck, because that’s exactly what Michelle Grosser, host of the top 1% ranked The Calm Mom podcast did, and she’s here to share the steps she took and the impact it had on her show.
In this episode of Mics to Millions, you’ll learn how she uses keywords for better online visibility, why she believes hitting 10k listeners is a pivotal turning point for podcast growth, and how you can secure opportunities at summits, live events, and seminars through your podcast interviews.
Creating personalized videos for hosts can be a great way to secure podcast interviews
When opening their inboxes, podcast hosts are often met with numerous lousy, copy-and-paste pitches. To stand out from the crowd, you need to personalize your pitches. And if you want to take this a step further, send a video message to the host.
This is the approach Michelle took to secure herself podcast interviews, and the process is so simple that you can’t afford to overlook it.
“I’ll just hit record on a Loom video, and I’ll record myself. It’s literally like a 30-40 second Loom, and I’ll be like ‘Hey, I’ve come across your podcast. I think I can really bring a new, fresh perspective on what it is that you’ve been teaching to your audience. Here’s my background and my training. I would love to connect with you and see if there’s a way that we could get this information that I share in front of your audience.’ And that’s been working really well,” Michelle says.
By pairing this strategy with the consistency of sending three to four podcast pitches a day, Michelle has secured a plethora of podcast guesting opportunities that have grown her show.
As Michelle puts it, “I think getting myself on other podcasts and in front of their audiences has brought the greatest growth of the show.”

Your podcast interview can be a gateway to bigger opportunities
Having guests on your show and guesting on podcasts can be great avenues for networking.
However, you’re missing out on a goldmine of potential if you don’t seize the opportunity to take things a step further with the hosts and guests you connect with.
If you want to know how to get more out of these interactions, Michelle has some valuable tips to use on your next call.
“In the few minutes that we have before we start recording, I always ask them ‘What do you have going on these days? What are you planning? What are you excited about?’ And so often they respond, ‘I’m planning this massive event in the summer’ and I’m excited for them without any real motive.”
She adds, “But once we have that rapport and we’ve recorded together for half an hour or an hour, and they see what my vibe is like and how I teach and what I talk about, maybe 80 to 90% of the time, what they mentioned at the beginning, they extend an invitation for me to participate.”
Using your podcast ad space to sell your offerings can generate higher ROI
There’s no doubt that selling ad space on your show can be a great way of monetizing your podcast.
But, instead of selling that ad space to other companies and businesses, if you have products or services that you want to sell, Michelle advocates promoting your offerings to bring in more revenue.
“For a long time, I was really just providing value for probably over a year without promoting anything. But eventually, I got to a point where I wanted to start monetizing it. And the first thing that I did was offer one-on-one coaching. And it continued to evolve until I had a full client load. And at the beginning of the year, I launched my first group program.”
She adds, “Right now, that’s the only way that I’m monetizing the podcast. I’m not doing affiliates. I’m not selling anyone else’s stuff. And I find that the ROI on selling my own things is much higher.”
